Jean Dubuffet - French Artist

One of the more famous French artists of the last century, and a particular fan/pioneer of Art Brut or 'Ugly Art'. He believed that there was more truth in the unspoiled, creative art of the insane and amateur than the professional artist. His works include paintings, puppets and sculptures amongst others. I like his work.

John B - Mr Freud

Another piece of record artwork - this time taking the form of a die cut?? record sleeve to look like a floppy disk.  A simple idea well executed.  Huge similarities to New Order's Blue Monday record sleeve (bottom).

Critical Recordings Artwok

More artwork done for the same record label as below.  The latest 5 releases have taken this format, with the latest ones (not shown) in red and blue.  I really like the simplicity of the designs and their visual impact, with the colours on black, and the fact that with each of them, you know instantly which record label they 'come from' - a sort of identity.

Banned Snicker Ad

This fairly amusing ad (one that would become a touch tedious maybe?) was banned in the UK (the only country doing so), for apparently being offensive towards homosexuals. This seems pathetic to me.

Critical - All Sounds Electric

This is the coverwork for an album I bought last year. It comes as 3x10" vinyls, each housed within their own individual sleeve, which then are housed in the outer sleeve. The ring design continues around the box, and all matches up when the vinyls are placed in the correct order. With most albums of this sort being packaged in just a larger sleeve, this was a refreshing take on things -a neat little package.

Rachel Freire

This lady does a bit of everything, and it is all pretty alarming and shocking. Her art direction is particularly interesting, creating bizarre images. Have a look at her website www.folieadeux.net - some of the images are not for the faint hearted.

Robin Schwartz Photography

Have a look at this guys website (www.robinschwartz.net), I cant' really pinpoint why I like some of his photography, but I do, especially the Primate Portraits section (from which the above photos are taken). The eye contact involved and the fact that the photos capture the individual personality of the primates is of particular interest.
